The 3/8 mile historic Hesston Speedway is one of the top high backed oval speedways in Pennsylvania. It is located in the scenic Raystown Lake area of central PA, in Huntingdon County. This popular resort location provides a wonderful opportunity for race fans and race teams to make a complete weekend getaway when attending the racing events at Hesston.
The track was originally built in 1961 and operated by Peggy and Sonny Ericksen until they closed it in 1979. It was reopened in 1993 by the Grubb family who operated it until 2004. Ryan Lynn purchased the track from the Grubbs and operated it until 2009 when it was purchased by the original owners son, David R Eriksen, DR “the Dirt Doctor” and his wife,Cindy Eriksen . Unfortunately, the Dirt Doctor’s battle with cancer forced them to close the Speedway in mid-2013.
Over 4 seasons of ownership, the Eriksens made mass improvements to the facility to again bring it back to its position as one of the top dirt tracks on the Pennsylvania racing scene. The track became renowned for spectacular events featuring mega-car counts, huge crowds and spectacular high-speed, racing action.
The Current owner, JELT Enterprises, LLC purchased the track in 2014. JELT reopened the track in 2015 with a very successful 12 event racing season.
2016 RACING SEASON
Entering its second racing season under the ownership of JELT Enterprises, LLC, the management team of JELT has continued to make improvements to the facility. It is planning an extended racing season of 20 races and events in 2016. The operations of the track will be under the direction of Jon & Lois Claycomb. The race day events will be managed by Kevin “Chetty’ Johnson. The condition of the track was one of the highlights of the 2015 season. Track maintenance will again be managed by Kip Corle in 2016.
